Marie P. is a writer and former line cook based in Scarborough, Ontario. She tells stories about family, food, labour, and the overlooked systems that keep a city alive. Her work often begins behind restaurant doors, in immigrant households, or among workers navigating broken infrastructure.
She writes both reported features and creative nonfiction. Her pieces blend field interviews with personal narrative, drawing from lived experience and cultural memory. Whether she’s interviewing bottle collectors or writing about how food shaped her Filipino upbringing, her voice is intimate, clear-eyed, and rooted in social context.
In 2025, Marie was published in CBC’s First Person series with her essay “I grew up sharing food and meals. But that isn’t always the Canadian way.” She is currently building a portfolio of longform stories focused on working-class communities, immigrant labour, and the quiet structures that sustain city life.
She believes journalism starts by paying attention — especially to the people and places most others overlook.
Love to cook, cook with love,
